From now on when I run into a problem, I’m going to add a post explaining how I solved it. I always really appreciate when others do the same.

I maintain a website for a local non-profit and when I recently tried to log into WordPress I received a message saying: Error 500 – Internal server error.

I’m a huge fan of the Thesis theme for WordPress. My site and many of the sites I’ve built utilize it. What I like the most is the “best of both worlds” features and capabilities. It offers website builders the ability to easily customize and create unique site designs while still maintaining all the user friendly features that attract so many people to WordPress.

One of the questions that comes up often as clients become acquainted with their new sites is how Thesis handles post images and thumbnails. There are some great built-in features like the recent blog post “teasers” (pictured at right) that offer a small sample of the post text and a thumbnail image. To take advantage of this, however, you have to insert the primary post image in a slightly different way and place than many other WordPress themes require.

It’s really pretty simple and you don’t have to leave the “Edit Post” screen to complete.

Here’s how

Step 1: Select the “Add An Image” option (small picture frame icon) from the “Upload/Insert” section at the top left of the Visual/HTML editor window.

Step 2: Select the image from your media library or computer

This is a post which was composed in Windows Live Writer.  It allows the user to work in a Microsoft Word like application which for many people is much more familiar and user friendly than the WordPress visual editor.  Once installed it is directly connected to the WordPress site and dashboard.  Hyperlinks, pictures, videos can all be added, moved and resized.

The standard chunk of Lorem Ipsum used since the 1500s is reproduced below for those interested. Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. Rackham.
